I really like Venice. I think it helps that our hotel is on a quiet street and canal so you can escape the craziness of all of the tourists. My favorite parts are when you turn down a random alley and get a little lost.
The view from the back dock of our hotel -- it looks out on the lagoon

Along the outside.

The bus! :-)

Our room -- not too shabby

The view from our hotel window over the canal

There is a daycare across the canal -- they take all the kids home in the big red boat

Madonna dell'Orto -- right next to our hotel

Inside of Orto -- reminds me of Villa Terrace in Milwaukee

I read somewhere about the delicate decay which makes Venice so interesting.

Hotel lobby -- the hotel used to be Palazzo Rizzo-Patarol and has a large garden in back (pictures to come)

Mercado! Smelled so good with all of the ripe fruit

We still have the day in Venice since we are taking a night train to Bratislava. I will post the last few pictures later. It will be sad to say goodbye to Italy but on to the Eastern Europe portion of our Excursion. --- where things are much cheaper but we have no way of understanding the language.
